Garber talks MLS' hope of attracting Kylian Mbappe

Major League Soccer has reportedly "begun exploring the possibility" of bringing Kylian Mbappe to the U.S. as the player's "caustic stand-off with Paris Saint-Germain intensifies." Emboldened by their "success in persuading Lionel Messi to choose Inter Miami over offers from Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League, MLS executives have sought to shape an innovative deal structure for Mbappe." It is understood the American move is "both a short- and long-term play." The league "regards discussions over deal shape as the beginning of a sustained courtship" of Mbappe. MLS Commissioner Don Garber said, "There was only one David Beckham, there’s only one Lionel Messi. But, you know, who knows? Mbappe wants to come into the league and a team in our MLS wants to do something unique? MLS is ambitious and innovative and who knows what kind of structure we’ll come up with." MLS' "secondary transfer window" closed last week with clubs able to resume the registration of new signings at the end of January (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 8/7).
