NRG Stadium roof still damaged from hurricane

Two large panels on NRG Stadium’s roof “still are missing” after being ripped off during Hurricane Beryl, meaning some fans were “roasting in the sun” during the Texans’ preseason game Saturday when "temperatures hit the upper 90s." Two 10-yard strips of sunlight “shined directly on the turf between approximately the 20- and 35-yard lines." NRG Stadium’s air conditioning “still was cranking and kept things relatively cool,” aside from those "near the heat zones caused by the roof’s missing panels." The Texans’ home regular-season opener is Sept. 15 against the Bears, but it is a Sunday night game, so the sun “won’t be an issue.” There is hope the roof “could be repaired in time" for the Week 4 home contest on Sept. 29 (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/17).
