D-backs P Jordan Montgomery “made waves on Friday when he ripped" his former agent Scott Boras. Montgomery said that Boras "'kind of butchered' his free agency." Boras responded that night and said, “I saw what Jordan said. I know what it is to be frustrated with this game. As a former player I feel for him. But I’m also a lawyer with obligations to my clients, including former ones. So I cannot discuss what happened or the decisions Jordan made unless he gives me permission. If he gives me the green light I’ll be happy to talk about it” (BOSTON HERALD, 8/25). Montgomery was one of four Boras clients who were "expected to land big deals in free agency this past offseason.” He was the last of the Boras Four to sign, inking a one-year, $25M deal with the D-backs. Montgomery fired Boras shortly afterwards, opting to switch representation to rival agency Wasserman. The free agency “misfire cost Montgomery tens of millions of dollars in the short term” (BOSTON HERALD, 8/23).
