Final numbers show healthy handle gains for August

With August reports released by Arizona regulators this week, we finally can close the book on the summer.

U.S. handle for the month was $9.077 billion, up 8% from the $7.891 billion in July. More importantly, year-over-year gains in states that were in operation at the same time last year continued to swell, increasing 28% vs. August 2023. July was up 29% compared the previous July. June was up 27%, year-over-year.

Among the states with handle of $200 million or more, Illinois was up 30% vs. last August, Tennessee was up 41%, Louisiana was up 83%, Ohio was up 45%, Maryland was up 43% and Massachusetts was up 42%.
