The Cavaliers’ G League affiliate the Cleveland Charge played its inaugural game at its new home this season, the 10,000 seat Public Auditorium in downtown Cleveland, on Friday night against the Wisconsin Herd. Despite having to compete for fans with the Cavaliers, who also had a home game on Friday night, there was a "decent turnout for the debut Charge game at the auditorium.” The auditorium is “rich with Cleveland history, more than 100 years of it." It broke ground in 1920 and finished in 1922. The city of Cleveland and Rock Entertainment Group “hope to transform the auditorium into a modern sports destination for Northeast Ohio while preserving its architectural legacy.” The Charge's new home includes “state-of-the-art weight rooms, modern training facilities, and new locker rooms for both home and visiting teams" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 12/14).
