Northern Illinois' BOT will meet "discuss and vote on the acceptance of an invitation to join the Mountain West as a football-only member in 2026" at Tuesday's meeting. Sources said that while they expect approval of the $2M membership fee, they cautioned that "it's not a done deal until that approval happens." The conference landing spot for its other sports would still be left "to be determined" if the move for the football team to leave the MAC is approved. It would give the Mountain West 11 total members and nine football-playing members in 2026 (THE ATHLETIC, 1/3).
