Sens' mascot draws fans' ire with split jersey

Fans were "fuming" on social media after a picture of Senators' mascot Spartacat wearing a "jersey that was a split" between the Senators and former NHL franchise Quebec Nordiques was posted online to celebrate Ottawa's plans to play preseason games in Quebec City next season. There were “more than 300” reactions to the post, and “not many were pleased.” Senators President & CEO Cyril Leeder last night went on TSN 1200 and said Quebec City fans are the ones the team is “most likely going to convert to Senator fans.” Leeder repeated that the photo of Spartacat “wasn’t meant to be a threat to the people of Ottawa” and that owner Michael Andlauer is “committed to having success in this market” (OTTAWA CITIZEN, 1/27). Leeder said on X the team "is not moving. Period. (other than hopefully downtown)" and said putting Spartacat in the jersey "was wrong. Today was a good reminder that our logo is sacred. As CEO, I own this one" (X, 1/27).
