This year’s Navy Federal Credit Union Stadium Series matchup at Ohio Stadium is less than a month away and while NHL President/Events & Entertainment Steve Mayer “didn’t cite specifics” on ticket sales, he said that the amount sold thus far is “about what league officials expected,” according to Brian Hedger of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. Ahead of the Blue Jackets-Red Wings game on March 1, Mayer said, “This is very typical of any of the outdoor games we’ve ever done. We still have tickets remaining.” The NHL will host a pep rally at Ohio State’s St. John Arena prior to the outdoor game, and it will feature a “free concert” by the band O.A.R., which “has OSU ties.” The Blue Jackets will also “make an appearance” at the “NHL Stadium Series Pep Rally” along with OSU’s athletic band. An ice truck and construction crew are “scheduled to arrive Feb. 16” in Columbus for the start of construction on the rink and “other design elements the following day.” The NHL used to keep its outdoor game designs “under tight wraps, but everything is publicly available now.” Mayer said that the NHL’s “decorative plans” for Ohio Stadium will be “released soon and will carry strong OSU and Blue Jackets themes” (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 2/6).
Stadium Series ticket sales currently on par with NHL’s goals
