Univ. of Texas AD Chris Del Conte “seems to be removing his name from the list” of potential candidates for the vacant AD role at SMU, according to the DALLAS MORNING NEWS staff. Former SMU AD Rick Hart stepped down a few weeks after Texas President Jay Hartzell assumed the same role at SMU and took over for R. Gerald Turner. Given Hartzell’s exit from UT for the same role at SMU, “there was some thought” Del Conte, who won Athletic Director of the Year at the 2024 Sports Business Awards, could follow Hartzell. SMU “remains confident it will find a strong successor for Hart” (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/11). In Dallas, Lia Assimakopoulos reported other candidates for the job could be Boise State AD Jeremiah Dickey, Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt and Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/10).
