The Raiders are showing DE Maxx Crosby is the “face of the team and embodies everything the franchise wants to be about” under new coach Pete Carroll and GM John Spytek after signing the All-Pro to a new $106.5M contract, according to Vincent Bonsignore of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Crosby’s annual average value of $35.5M makes him the “highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.” Crosby had two years left on his previous deal, meaning there was “no pressing need” by the Raiders to get a new contract done. However, it was notable that Carroll and Spytek “made Crosby a priority.” Crosby also is giving Carroll and Spytek “a vote of confidence by recommitting to the franchise” (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 3/5). In Las Vegas, Ed Graney wrote it is an “important thing” to have a team’s star player “so in sync with those making critical decisions.” Spytek and Carroll have “talked about setting the tone for a new era of Raiders football.” In their minds, there “was no better person to begin with than Crosby” (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 3/5).
