Former Harvard women’s ice hockey coach KATEY STONE made her first appearance in federal court in her $20M lawsuit against the university for alleged gender discrimination, failure to pay equal wages, and retaliation. Stone sat beside her legal team in U.S. District Court as Magistrate Judge JENNIFER BOAL “heard oral arguments” on Harvard’s motion to dismiss her claims against the university (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/17).
GROWING FRUSTRATION: UTA announced yesterday that it is replacing co-founder & CEO JEREMY ZIMMER, with UTA President DAVID KRAMER set to succeed him. Behind “major outside investment over the years,” Zimmer “oversaw not just the survival of UTA amid fierce competition, but the expansion of the company” -- with about 20 acquisitions in total. But based on multiple conversations with UTA insiders, Chair PAUL WACHTER and his 11-person board “had grown especially frustrated” with Zimmer recently. Zimmer “championed some questionable deals,” and he is “perceived to have overpaid” for Klutch Sports Group, which UTA first bought into in 2019 and acquired full ownership of last year, according to a source (PUCK, 3/18).
NAMES: The California Dental Association is applauding Warriors G STEPHEN CURRY for becoming an “unexpected champion” of oral health. UCSF oral epidemiology professor DR. BENJAMIN CHAFFEE wrote in an editorial published last week that Curry’s behavior “may have shifted public perception of mouthguards, making them seem more mainstream.” Given that mouthguards are proven to reduce orofacial injuries, Chaffee emphasized that Curry’s influence on the younger generation “should not be underestimated” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 3/17).
