PitchBook eyeing SuperSonics return with Kraken sponsorship extension

Kraken Climate Pledge Arena

Seattle-based financial data provider PitchBook announced it is extending its sponsorship of the Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena by six years on Friday, with PitchBook President & COO Rod Diefendorf noting that a “pivotal part of the deal was getting an early start should the Seattle SuperSonics return to the arena,” according to Rick Morgan of the PUGET SOUND BUSINESS JOURNAL. Diefendorf said that they included language in the deal so if the SuperSonics “do come back, we’re the sponsor of them as well.” Diefendorf added that he does not “know when or if the Sonics are returning.” PitchBook first signed its deal with the Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena in 2020. The firm is a suite-level sponsor and the “official financial data provider” for the Kraken, providing data to team owners, players, staff and other suite owners. Diefendorf said that PitchBook “wanted to finalize the extension with the Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena ahead of the Kraken’s Women in Hockey Night,” and the sides worked out the final details while Diefendorf was flying back from NYC last week. He added that the firm “still had more than a year left on its original deal but wanted to get an extension done early” (PUGET SOUND BUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/17).
