Penske Entertainment and NTT IndyCar Series owner Roger Penske has “pledged that the next generation of IndyCar technology will be coming soon,” according to Nathan Brown of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. Penske said at yesterday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum that the series “plans to debut a new car design for the start of the 2027 season.” Penske: “We have a car in design. It’s in the wind tunnel, and our plan is to bring in that car in 2027. It’ll look like an Indy car, and it’ll be safer -- that’s one of the things we’ve tried to do. We’re looking at speed and also the ability to take some weight out of the car, which all the teams want, and then of course we’ll have hybrid technology.” Penske added, “We’re talking to Honda, obviously, and talking to Chevy, and our goal is to have them with us in 2027.” New tech has been a “frequent topic of conversation” over the last six months, and one that has “more than a couple IndyCar team owners nervous and all of them overly curious” (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 4/2).
