Celtics G Jaylen Brown during a recent appearance on Barstool’s “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast stated his frustrations with the NBA agent system, saying that he “has issues with the way business is done between players and agents in general,” according to Khari Thompson of the BOSTON GLOBE. Brown: “I hope I ruffle all the [expletive] feathers, like all of them, because the agency model isn’t working. It’s a bunch of players, 60 percent of players within the first 10 years are losing the majority of their wealth.” He added, “If you can’t help me at 18 or 19 years old to maintain my wealth, build a legacy, and keep what I am earning and be able to influence me on my decision-making, you shouldn’t be representing me in the first place.” Brown: “I know there’s some agents out there that are doing some good work and collaborating with athletes and getting the job done. But, overall, the agency model is failing. It’s failing our athletes and failing our culture, so something had to be said.” Brown pointed to Thunder G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s February decision to leave agency Wasserman and represent himself for on-court matters, with Brown tweeting at the time that he “loved the move” (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/8).
