MLB Commissioner ROB MANFRED met with President DONALD TRUMP at the White House on Wednesday, though the “specifics of their discussion were not immediately clear,” according to Janes & Maske of the WASHINGTON POST. Trump has offered “several baseball-related opinions over the years,” most recently in late February when he said he would issue a “complete PARDON” to former MLBer PETE ROSE, the league’s all-time hits leader who died last year at age 83. Whether Rose’s “fate came up during Manfred and Trump’s conversation, and to what extent if so, is unclear.” But the meeting is a “notable development” after Trump’s recent comments and in a month in which MLB “faced criticism for removing references to diversity from its careers page” in response to Trumps push to end federal support of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives (WASHINGTON POST, 4/17).
