Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has bought a 10% stake in Chelsea Women for $26.5M (All figures U.S.), valuing the team at more than $265.2M -- which would “make it the most valuable women’s team in the world.” Ohanian will “take a seat on the board of Chelsea Women” with his wife, Serena Williams, “also expected to be engaged in the club.” All of Ohanian‘s investment “will go to the women’s team.” Chelsea announced a year ago it was making Chelsea Women a separate entity from the men’s club, with Chelsea FC Holdings ultimately selling it to sister company, Midco Ltd., for $265.2M. The $265.2M valuation “has still to be approved” by the Premier League as being of fair market value. But Chelsea will see Ohanian‘s investment as “vindication for their decision to separate the women’s team from the men’s” (London TIMES, 5/14).
