MLSE is set to have a board meeting before the end of the week, and that is likely “when a decision will be made” about Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan’s future with the organization, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Shanahan has overseen the Leafs for 11 years, during which the team has won just two playoff series. Rogers soon will own 75% of MLSE, but Friedman notes, “They don’t yet.” Friedman: “The board is still 37.5% Rogers, 37.5% Bell, 25% Tannenbaum. I think there’s a lot of cooks behind the scenes there.” It is possible that MLSE President & CEO Keith Pelley may already “have the sway to do what he wants to do.” However, the board “still has to meet, and I think there are a lot of opinions” (“NHL Morning Skate,” NHL Network Radio, 5/21).
