The Dallas City Council voted 12-2 yesterday to “approve building” the Wings’ $55M practice facility in Far West Oak Cliff’s Joey Georgusis Park, according to Myah Taylor of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The undeveloped park land will also include the Wings’ “offices, soccer fields for pro women’s soccer team Dallas Trinity FC and other elements intended to encourage sports development in the area.” Yesterday was a “big step for the city and the Wings,” who expected to move to Memorial Auditorium in 2026 under a 15-year, $19M use agreement that also included the construction of a practice facility. Delays to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center redevelopment pushed back the team’s move-in date to at least 2027, but the April 2024 agreement with the Wings “still meant the city had to provide the practice facility on time.” Wings CEO Greg Bibbs said that the facility will open in April 2026 in time for next season’s training camp. He said that the facility will feature “two practice courts; the latest in basketball-related technology; professional locker rooms and wellness space; a strength and conditioning area; family and mother’s rooms for working moms; community spaces and other amenities.” Bibb after the news conference noted that the Wings “will continue to play games at UT Arlington’s College Park Center in 2026,” while practicing in the new facility “that our world-class female athletes deserve” (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/11).
