Premier League club Manchester United has begun a “revamp of their recruitment department,” a process that could mean long-serving scout Simon Wells “will leave the club,” according to Mike McGrath of the London TELEGRAPH. ManU is consulting with Sportsology Group to find a new head of senior recruitment overseeing senior scouts. The club is also “looking for heads of emerging talent in regional areas.” It is a “major shake-up” in ManU’s recruitment operations, which have led to the club “struggling to land successful transfers” in the post–Alex Ferguson era, who was the club’s longtime manager. The new posts will report to ManU Dir of Recruitment Christopher Vivell. The changes “may see senior scout Wells depart.” Wells worked during the Ferguson era, starting as an analyst, and returned to the recruitment department under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and “remained a valued member of the team for other managers.” ManU sees the restructuring as a “modernisation of their scouting network,” which will “inevitably see changes in the way of working.” Sportsology Group, which will lead the search for the new positions, is headed by former Chelsea Dir Mike Forde (London TELEGRAPH, 7/9).
