Liberty G Sabrina Ionescu was resolute Friday that WNBA players “know their worth and are going to fight for as long as it takes” in CBA talks. Ionescu said, “We’re not going to just take the minimum. We’re not just going to take something because it’s kind of hung over our heads and it’s a lot more than we’re making now.” She added, “The understanding is we should be talking about things that are groundbreaking and being able to break down those barriers. And knowing that the league is where it’s at because of the players that are all a part of it and we deserve to be compensated for it.” The WNBPA and league officials are “scheduled to meet in Indianapolis ahead of WNBA All-Star weekend.” Ionescu said, “We need to be able to be in the room with [WNBA commissioner] Cathy [Engelbert] and talking to her and her leadership group about what we want and how we can kind of meet in the middle to find what’s important." Ionescu said that she “wishes that Engelbert was as accessible to WNBA players as NBA commissioner Adam Silver is,” noting that she has “had more conversations with Silver over the years” than she has had with Engelbert (N.Y. POST, 7/11).
