The “breadth of ball caps -- new and vintage, logoed and blank” -- at the annual conference July 12-14 thrown by the investment bank Allen & Company in Sun Valley, Idaho “was striking,” according to Sam Schube of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Based on photos from the event, “colloquially known as ‘billionaire summer camp,’” Schube wrote easily the “most intriguing hats were those that expressed an interest, affinity or bit of personality on behalf of folks known for carefully guarding their privacy and image.” Other execs wore hats “emblazoned” with their own company’s logos: Warner Bros. Discovery CEO/President DAVID ZASLAV wore a “WB-branded hat,” while MLB Commissioner ROB MANFRED wore the “sort of MLB-stamped cap more often seen on the sport’s umpires.” Some used headwear to highlight their other businesses: Commanders co-owner MITCHELL RALES “proudly rocked the burgundy and gold,” while former Disney CEO MICHAEL EISNER “repped his ownership stake” in EFL Championship club Portsmouth FC. Some guests leaned into the so-called “quiet luxury” style that’s crested in recent years: NBA Commissioner ADAM SILVER, sports team owner STAN KROENKE, and former Activision Blizzard CEO BOBBY KOTICK “all wore the muted-color unbranded baseball hats” of the sort favored HBO “Succession” series character KENDALL ROY (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 7/12).
