A’s to debut ‘Sacramento’ alternate jerseys next season

GoVision built the new LED man video board at Sutter Health Park, the home of both the Triple-A River Cats and major league A's through 2027.

The A’s will “debut a ‘bold new look’ featuring ‘Sacramento’ emblazoned across their gold-and-green jerseys” next season, according to Chris Biderman of the SACRAMENTO BEE. The alternate jersey uses the Athletics’ “traditional gold base with green script lettering and includes the club’s logo on the sleeve.” The uniform will be worn during “every Saturday home game as part of the team’s ‘Sacramento Saturday’ promotional series.” Players may also “opt to wear the jerseys during other games at home or on the road.” The replica jersey will be available for purchase in the spring, both online and at the team store. Fans attending the April 4 home game against the Astros “will receive one as a promotional item.” Despite the new lettering across the front, the name “Sacramento” is “unlikely to follow the team anywhere else.” The franchise formally rebranded as the Athletics -- not the Sacramento A’s -- before the start of the 2025 season, following the team’s relocation from Oakland. The move “frustrated some fans and civic leaders who viewed it as a missed opportunity to embrace the capital region” (SACRAMENTO BEE, 9/28).

LET’S TRY THIS AGAIN: THE ATHLETIC’s Steve Berman noted the team’s average attendance for its first season in Sacramento was “shy of 9,500 per game heading into Sunday,” the lowest in MLB and “over 4,000 short of the seating capacity” in Sutter Health Park. He wrote the A’s “want to ensure that Las Vegas is front and center,” so they “decided against branding themselves as the Sacramento team.” Berman: “The A’s didn’t captivate California’s capital city. It remains to be seen whether a new alternate jersey will result in more fans heading through the turnstiles” (THE ATHLETIC, 9/28).
