Blank spaces could be seen this morning where Staples Center lettering and logos "once stood as the rebranding to Crypto.com Arena becomes a reality." Crews were "working overnight to take down old signage." The name change is "set to officially take place" on Christmas Day when the Lakers host the Nets (KTLA.com, 12/6). Crews were seen "removing exterior logos, taking down the letters, one by one" (ABC7.com, 12/6). AEG said that the signage inside the arena "will officially be changed" on Christmas Day. All external signage "will be replaced by next June" (LOSANGELES.CBSLOCAL.com, 12/6).
The Athletic today does a deep dive on why Crypto.com paid $700M for the arena's naming rights.
