Dutch side Ajax posts losses of $9.4M for '20-21

Dutch soccer club Ajax reported an €8.1M ($9.4M) loss for the '20-21 season, a deficit the Dutch club attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and "a season where most of the matches were played without fans." For '19-20, Ajax booked a net profit of almost €21M, but revenue dropped by €37.1M ($43M) during the pandemic-hit season to €125M ($145M). Ajax offered its fans a refund for matches they could not attend, "with a substantial amount of supporters demanding their money back." In the financial year, players including Donny van de Beek (ManU), Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea) and Sergiño Dest (Barcelona) were sold, bringing in €86M ($100M). Ajax spent on signing Sébastien Haller and three other players, "eventually resulting in a player trading surplus" of €25.6M ($30M) (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 10/5).
