On Long Island, Steve Zipay reports OLN refuted a report that Cablevision subscribers “ would be able to watch NHL games this season on the company’s sports tier .” An OLN spokesperson said, “While it’s our desire to resolve this issue prior to our first game, the blackout guidelines previously communicated remain in effect” ( NEWSDAY, 8/30 ). ON THE ROAD: ABC Sports’ college football studio show will originate live from the site of one of the net’s best games that day, marking the first season of consistent live remote telecasts. The first remote show will take place Monday night in Tallahassee for the Univ. of Miami-Florida State Univ. game ( ESPN ). MARKET NEWS: In Boston, Bill Griffith reports the rescheduled start of Tigers-Red Sox last Friday night resulted in the Red Sox “running head-to-head” with coverage of the Patriots-Packers preseason game from 8:00-11:15pm ET. The Patriots “started strong, with first teams playing,” and the Red Sox “started slowly,” but the Red Sox ended up drawing a 13.4 rating, with the Patriots earning an 11.9 ( BOSTON GLOBE, 8/30 )....In Cleveland, Roger Brown reported FSN Ohio ratings for Indians games are up 15% compared to last year. Meanwhile, Cleveland is the top city in viewership for FSN’s “BDSSP,” which is hosted by Shaker Heights, Ohio, native Chris Rose. Also, Browns WR Braylon Edwards will be a regular contributor to “BDSSP” during the football season, becoming the first rookie to be given a regular segment on the show ( Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 8/29 ).
