NHL Marketing Notes: League Tying In To Disney Film

The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Gail Schiller reported the NHL is working on a promotional partnership with the upcoming Disney film "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."  While details of the NHL's promotions have not been finalized, NHL Senior VP/Communications Bernadette Mansur indicated that the "tie-in will involve using such NHL assets as jumbotrons and signage in its 30 arenas, on NHL.com and the newly launched NHL Network."  Also, the Stanley Cup will be featured at some promotional events for the film (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 12/12). The film's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, is reportedly part of a group looking to bring an NHL team to Las Vegas.  He is also a Kings season-ticket holder ( THE DAILY ). HEAT WAVE: The CP's Neil Stevens noted that Thermablades, a brand of heated skate blades, "are being used by four anonymous NHL players."  NHL Senior Manager of Hockey Operations Kris King indicated that the players' four teams "have asked that their names be kept secret so the Thermablades ... didn't draw media attention and their use become a distraction."  Both the NHL and the NHLPA are "assessing the experiment of using them in NHL games," and equipment managers "have reported no problems."  The $400 skates are manufactured by Quebec-based Therma Blade Inc. (CP, 12/12) . FLAT EARTH: The Predators have inked a corporate partnership with Nashville-based Flat Earth Networking, making the company the exclusive sponsor of the stats report on the team's post-game show on the Predators Radio Network (Predators).
