English Premier League club Liverpool co-Owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett "have had to delay a [US$693.7M] loan needed to fund" the club's new stadium until '09, but Liverpool has "dismissed speculation that their move from [current stadium] Anfield has been jeopardised by the global credit crunch," according to Patrick Nathanson of the London TELEGRAPH. The club indicated that plans for construction of the new stadium "will not be affected as the loan used to buy the club in February will be re-financed." A Liverpool source said, "The stadium plans are still on track although, as was stated publicly earlier this week, the design may have to be scaled down in terms of extravagance." The original design for the new stadium included "a futuristic exterior, but earlier this week that design had to be scrapped in order to cut spiraling costs" ( London TELEGRAPH, 12/21 ).
