College Marketing Notes: Univ. Of Houston To Sign Multiyear Deal With Fanatics

Fanatics today will announce a multiyear deal with the Univ. of Houston to run the school’s online and on-site retail operations. UH’s on-campus bookstore in the TDECU Stadium parking garage today also will be re-opened. Fanatics additionally has opened up UH’s largest-ever in-stadium merchandise spot, located on the concourse inside TDECU Stadium. As part of the deal, Fanatics Branded will produce custom gear for UH throughout the year ( THE DAILY ).

LEAVING A LIGHT ON : NBCSPORTS.com's Kevin McGuire notes the Cactus Bowl has signed Motel 6 "for a second straight season as the title sponsor." This year's game, which is scheduled for Dec. 27 and will pit a Pac-12 team against a Big 12 school, will again be played at Chase Field  in Phoenix as Sun Devil Stadium continues offseason renovations ( NBCSPORTS.com, 9/6 ).

STILL GOING STRONG : MLIVE.com's Martin Slagter noted Michigan fans have responded to the switch from adidas to Nike's Jordan Brand with an "enthusiasm unknown to mankind." Ann Arbor-based The M Den employee Bobby MacDermaid said that the hype surrounding the new apparel "hasn't died down in the past month," with a "number of fans loading on gear on Friday, creating traffic similar to game day" ( MLIVE.com, 9/3 ). Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand endorsers Derek Jeter and Charles Woodson, a former UM star, all were at UM's win over Hawaii on Saturday ( THE DAILY ).
