Univ. of Colorado AD Rick George said that he believes his athletic department will finish FY '20, which ends June 30, "in the black," according to Brian Howell of the Boulder DAILY CAMERA. George said, "I'm confident of that and that's why we haven't moved as quickly." Howell notes some athletic departments around the country "have already announced some cuts," but CU "has not made any of those decisions yet." George: "Everything is on the table. We're having those discussions and we're talking through what that might look like. I would absolutely be the first one to take a pay cut." He added that CU "has no current plans of eliminating any sports." George said, "Eliminating a sport is way, way, way down the list." Meanwhile, Howell notes the school has "suspended all on-campus events through July 31," and so the Dead & Company concerts at Folsom Field scheduled for July 10-11 will not be held, which "will impact CU athletics." Outside events "netted CU athletics a profit" of $1,757,952 during FY '18-19. CU budgeted for a profit of more than $2M "from outside events" for FY '20, "although this year's Dead & Company shows would fall under the 2021 budget" (Boulder DAILY CAMERA, 4/17).
