Amazon Scores First Local MLS Streaming Deal with Seattle Sounders

Amazon has gained exclusive rights to stream all non-nationally televised Sounders matches to Prime Video subscribers in Washington State. The three-year deal kicks off with Sounders FC’s match against LA Galaxy on Aug. 26 and will run through the 2022 MLS season.

Amazon is effectively replacing YouTube TV , which has held exclusive rights to stream regionally broadcast Sounders games since 2018. Fans with cable will still be able to watch non-nationally televised Sounders games through the team's local TV deals with the FOX-owned KCPQ and KZJO channels.

Seattle becomes the second professional sports franchise to sell their local streaming rights to Amazon, after the New York Yankees signed a deal in March to stream 21 games per season on Prime Video. That deal was supposed to start this season but because of MLB’s shortened 60-game season, it won’t go into effect until 2021 at the earliest.
