NFL U.K. exec Alistair Kirkwood to step down from role

NFL U.K. Managing Dir ALISTAIR KIRKWOOD, one of the "most influential figures in the growth" of the league in the U.K., will "step down from his role at the end of this month," according to Malik Ouzia of the London EVENING STANDARD. Kirkwood joined the league in '00 and "played a crucial part in the establishment and expansion of an International Series." Regular-season games had been played in England every year since '07 before the pandemic canceled games set for '20. During that time, the game’s popularity "has boomed" in the U.K. Kirkwood was also "influential in setting up the International Player Pathway." The program has seen athletes from around the world "afforded the opportunity to train with NFL teams," and some, such as Bills DE EFE OBADA, "forge a successful career in the league." The NFL’s U.K. business operations "will now be led" by former World Rugby CEO BRETT GOSPER, who was announced as the NFL’s new Head of U.K. and Europe last year (London EVENING STANDARD, 3/24).
