Connected-fitness conglomerate iFIT, which owns such brands as NordicTrack, has become an official, multi-year partner of four major marathons -- enabling users to run those races virtually while paced by an iFIT trainer.
The program began with last weekend’s London Marathon and also will include the Boston, Chicago and New York City marathons. For each race, a film crew will follow an iFIT trainer for all 26.2 miles while recording the sights, sounds and scenes from the runner’s point of view.
The speed and grade of iFIT’s NordicTrack, ProForm and Freemotion treadmills will adjust to the specific topography of each race. Those running at home on connected machines can select on-demand, multi-part workout series’ and simulate each course either in part or in full.
iFIT , whose headquarters are in Logan, Utah, also owns the Sweat, Weider and 29029 fitness brands and offers numerous live and on-demand fitness classes.
