Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing received the F1 World Championship trophy on Thursday at the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony in Paris for their victory over Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes-AMG Petronas. The victory capped a season of growth on social media for F1 overall, with the racing circuit's accounts across Twitter and Instagram gaining more than 6 million followers from the beginning of the ’21 season until now. After winning the final race on the last lap, victory posts from Verstappen and F1 generated around $6.65M on Instagram and more than $1.3M on Twitter, with more than 100 million impressions. Verstappen’s Instagram followers rocketed over the course of the season, rising more than 89% on Instagram and 61% on Twitter. He outpaced Hamilton in follower growth on Twitter, despite having around a fifth of the followers when the first race of the year began. In parallel, Verstappen’s team, Red Bull Racing, gained more followers throughout the season despite a lower original follower count when compared to Mercedes-AMG Petronas on either social platform.
