Formula 1 to use helmet cameras on all 20 drivers during upcoming season

The FIA has approved the use of helmet cameras from Racing Force Group to be worn by all 20 drivers for the upcoming Formula 1 season. F1’s agreement with Italy-based Racing Force Group will see the company’s Driver's Eye camera made available to all drivers to capture broadcast footage.

Racing Force Group’s Driver’s Eye camera was trialed sporadically last F1 season, per F1 media personality Vincenzo Landino. The micro-camera is 8 millimeters in diameter and weighs 1.43 grams and is affixed at eye-level on the protective padding inside a driver’s helmet. F1’s 2023 World Championship is scheduled to begin March 5 in Bahrain. The league-wide helmet camera approval comes after ESPN renewed its U.S. media rights deal last year with F1 through 2025 at around $75-90M per year.
