Florida starts process renovating Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

The Univ. of Florida announced Monday it will “start looking for an architectural firm” to handle the renovation of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, according to David Whitley of the GAINESVILLE SUN. It is “yet to be determined” what the extent of the rebuild will be, but at the very least, the “seating, concourse layout, entry gates, bathrooms and concessions will be refurbished.” The stadiums sound system and video board will “also be refurbished.” Still, Whitley noted that what the stadium “will look like in three to five years” is “open to speculation.” The University Athletic Association is “gearing up for a fundraising campaign,” since the ultimate price tag of the project is “expected to be at least” $400M (GAINESVILLE SUN, 7/3). USA TODAY’s Jordan Mendoza noted the last stadium renovation occurred “prior to the 2012 season with upgrades made to the west concourse” (USA TODAY, 7/3).
