NBA's Adam Silver Explains Why League Plays Games On MLK Day

Eleven NBA games were played yesterday on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called playing games on the holiday a “terrific opportunity to educate people about the values that are important to this league.” He said, “I remember years ago, some people said, ‘Maybe you shouldn't be playing on Martin Luther King Day. A lot of people have the day off, it's a holiday for a lot of people.’ I think we ultimately came together and said we can inspire people by playing today and by making it something bigger than the game” ( “NBA Tip-Off,” TNT, 1/15 ).
