Breanna Stewart To Be WNBA Ambassador During Injury Rehab

WNBA Seattle Storm F  Breanna Stewart "will be a paid ambassador" for the league this season as she recovers from a torn Achilles. Since the league has "no injury list for teams," the Storm "suspended Stewart without pay to free up a roster spot." A source said that the WNBA will pay Stewart in "excess of the roughly $65,000 base salary she would have made with the Storm." The source added that the WNBPA, which was "involved in the Stewart decision ... is interested [in] some kind of change, whether it's in the form of an injured reserve list or a roster expansion." It will "be a big topic of discussion around the CBA" ( AP, 5/23 ). The WNBA's move is "unprecedented in recent history," as Stewart is "believed to be the first active player to serve in such a role" ( SEATTLE TIMES, 5/24 ).

Quote of the Day
Before the Super Bowl in 2025, we met with our leadership and said we didn’t want to do something that had already been done. We identified Jameis that year as someone who was, by every metric we could count, the number one NFL player on social, just for his virality, his moments and his Jameisisms.
-- Fox Sports Exec Dir of Digital & Social Nick Rago, on why the network chose N.Y. Giants QB Jameis Winston as a roaming, social-first correspondent for its World Cup coverage.
