Don Cherry On Sportsnet Firing: "I Meant What I Said"

Don Cherry  after being fired by Sportsnet yesterday told the TORONTO STAR that he "could still be on" the Coach's Corner segment, but that he "refused to apologize." Cherry said, "I could have stayed if I had wiped the floor with myself, and returned as a tamed person. I don’t feel that the people who watch Coach’s Corner deserve something like that. I would rather go out on my shield. ... I don’t regret a thing. I said what I said, I meant what I said" ( TORONTO STAR, 11/12 ). The lack of apology was "likely the last straw" as far as Sportsnet was concerned ( TORONTO STAR, 11/12 ).

Sacramento Officials To Decide On Funding For MLS Stadium

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg today will ask the City Council to "agree in principle to loan" the local MLS investor group up to $27.2M to "pay for infrastructure around a planned stadium in the downtown Railyard." The funds, to come from a city risk management fund, "would finance roads, water and sewer lines, pedestrian walkways and a light rail station near the 20,000-plus seat stadium" ( SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/8 ). This comes as the estimated total cost of the stadium recently climbed to more than $300M ( THE DAILY ).
