Tennis player Lleyton Hewitt "accepted the sport's highest honor" last night as he was inducted into the Int'l Tennis HOF in Newport, R.I. He played "bigger than his listed size at 5 feet 10 inches and proved a dogged competitors on big stages." Hewitt said, "I gave 100 percent every time I stepped on the court. And it wasn't just the match court -- it was the practice court as well" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 7/17). Hewitt in his "commemorative ITHF blazer" stood in front of his family, friends and tennis greats to give his speech, "thanking all that had helped him to get to this point" (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/17). Hewitt was inducted by Australian legends John Newcombe and Tony Roche, the "latter of whom flew across the world to join his mentee for a special weekend." Hewitt is a member of the Class of 2021, but his induction was "delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic" (ATPTOUR.com, 7/17).
