Dr Pepper halftime contest causes controversy

Saturday’s Dr Pepper ball toss “was met with boos” during halftime of the SEC Championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The contest awards $100,000 in tuition to the winner. Baylor student Reagan Whitaker was "initially awarded the win over St. Augustine student Kayla Gibson, despite the overtime ending in a tie." During the fourth quarter, in was announced on the game broadcast that Dr Pepper "would gift both Whitaker and Gibson" with $100,000 in tuition (AL.com, 12/3).
