Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark said “nothing has changed” regarding Texas and Oklahoma’s departure timeline to the SEC. Sources have said that “there have been discussions” for the two schools to “leave in time for the 2024 football season.” Yormark said, “If there’s an opportunity for us to come together as a collective to figure something out where there’s an early exit, we’d be open to that discussion.” Yormark added he has told members the date could change, but it is “not in my control," and "if it does, we’ll be prepared to adjust” (THE ATHLETIC, 1/7). The conference still has not released its 2023 football schedule, but Yormark said that of the delay, “It has nothing to do with Texas and Oklahoma. They don’t control our scheduling process. We want to make sure it’s done in the most appropriate way” (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 1/7).
