Three years ago, everything finally seemed to be coming together for Shad Khan and the Jacksonville Jaguars. After five seasons of futility under his ownership, the Jaguars had come within 4 points of reaching their first Super Bowl in January 2018. The roster looked primed to remain competitive for years to come. That April, Khan, an auto parts magnate, unveiled a $2.5 billion vision to redevelop the dilapidated section of downtown Jacksonville around TIAA Bank Field.
