Facilities: Poised for growth

Bryan Trubey’s decision to launch a new sports practice at architecture and design firm Overland Partners appears well-timed. While 2022 will see only $1.84 billion in major league venue openings (new construction and renovations), Trubey, the former HKS sports practice head, is among the many who think the coming year will plant the seeds for a significant sports venue building boom in the next five or six years. “I think we’re going to have double or triple the [design] work in a year of any given prior year,” Trubey said of 2022.

Quote of the Day
Sports were fine for 150 years before we had technology. ... So now we've added this VAR, Video Assisted Referee, which again, I wouldn't mind, what I mind is when we get it wrong. ... I could live with human error, I can't live with human error when the technology is wrong.
-- Peak6 Investments co-founder Matt Hulsizer, on his frustration with the Premier League's VAR technology getting calls wrong.
