SBJ: Qatar ready for World Cup spotlight

Welcome to the 2022 FIFA men’s World Cup, perhaps the trickiest, and maybe riskiest, edition in the nearly century-long history of the most popular single-sport event on the planet. The host nation of Qatar is smaller than 48 of the 50 U.S. states, with a population almost on par with that of Brooklyn. A still-unknown number of people died while building the eight stadiums that will be used during the monthlong event, which will be held in a time (November and December) and a place (the Middle East) unique to this event.

Quote of the Day

We identified Jameis that year as someone who was, by every metric we could count, the number one NFL player on social, just for his virality, his moments and his Jameisisms.
-- Fox Sports Exec Dir of Digital & Social Nick Rago, on why the network chose N.Y. Giants QB Jameis Winston as a roaming, social-first correspondent for its World Cup coverage.
