Chris Mortensen announces retirement from ESPN

Chris Mortensen, the NFL insider who spent more than 30 years at ESPN, today announced his "retirement from the network," meaning he will not appear on the net this NFL season. Mortensen tweeted, “It’s time to reveal after my 33rd NFL draft in April, I made a decision to step away from ESPN and focus on my health, family and faith." Mortensen previously had "stepped away from ESPN for a period in 2016 as he battled Stage IV throat cancer" (N.Y. POST, 9/5). Mortensen has been an "enduring presence for multiple generations of ESPN viewers." As a senior NFL Insider, he was "ubiquitous on ESPN’s programs and platforms, from Sunday NFL Countdown to SportsCenter to ESPN Radio to the NFL Draft to Super Bowl coverage to offseason features" (THE ATHLETIC, 9/5).
