Two possibilities for the Rays’ temporary home field in 2025 are Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees’ spring training facility in Tampa, and the old spring training home of the Braves in Kissimmee at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex. MLB has considered “basically everything imaginable, including faraway spots.” However, a source said that it is “unlikely that the Rays would begin in 2025 in a city that is considered a prime destination for an eventual expansion franchise.” That means Nashville and Salt Lake City are “doubtful” (THE ATHLETIC, 10/25). Rays P Pete Fairbanks -- the team’s union rep -- said, “I think being local is the first (choice). I think that it would be a disservice to everybody, especially with the prospect of the new stadium coming and everything else, to leave for however long. I think it would be pretty contrary to what everybody’s been working towards here" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 10/27).
