Power Players: Women’s Sports — Bay FC

Bay FC

Aly Wagner

Co-Founder, Co-Chair and Alternate Governor

Alan Waxman

Co-Chair and Investor

Aly Wagner, a former pro soccer player with two Olympic gold medals to her name, was joined by fellow former U.S. women’s national soccer team stars Brandi Chastain, Leslie Osborne and Danielle Slaton in pursuing a years-long effort to launch an NWSL team in the San Francisco Bay Area. That franchise, Bay FC, was awarded in early 2023, thanks in part to a $125 million commitment — including a then-record $53 million expansion fee — from Alan Waxman’s Sixth Street. Wagner and Waxman serve as co-chairs of Bay FC’s board — other board members include former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg and former basketball executive Rick Welts — and are overseeing ambitious plans, which include construction of a training facility and, eventually, a women’s-specific home stadium. Wagner also serves as Fox Sports’ lead match analyst for its FIFA Women’s World Cup coverage. — C.S.
