In April 2022, Jenny Nguyen bet big on a novel idea: the country’s first women’s sports bar. An intimate space in Portland, The Sports Bra shows only women’s sports. Two years later, it’s hosted events with Sue Bird, partnered with Aflac for watch parties, and become so successful it attracted the attention of a major new investor — Reddit co-founder and Angel City FC founding investor Alexis Ohanian — leading to plans to nationally franchise. Nguyen already has received hundreds of inquiries, and 100% of returns from investment will go to girls and women’s sports, through Ohanian’s nonprofit 776 Foundation. — M.C.
