Franchise Notes

CBSNEWS.com’s Stephanie Ballesteros writes the National Lacrosse League’s Philadelphia Wings are “ceasing operations at the end of this season.” The team, owned by Comcast Spectacor, will play its last home game at Xfinity Mobile Arena on April 11 and their final game on April 18 at Rogers Arena. Comcast Spectacor -- which also owns the Flyers and Xfinity Mobile Arena -- acquired the team after the franchise returned to Philadelphia about 8 years ago (CBSNEWS.com, 3/30).

NEW DIGS: ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss noted Patriots coaches and support staff “officially moved into the New Balance Athletics Center last week,” marking a “new beginning for the franchise,” which previously housed its offices inside Gillette Stadium. The facility is next to Gillette and overlooks the team’s practice fields. Reiss wrote it can be “summed up in one word: stunning” (ESPN.com, 3/29).

KICKED OUT: In Vancouver, Patrick Johnston noted reporter Trevor Beggs, who covers the Canucks for the Daily Hive Vancouver, was “removed from the rink on Thursday.” He believes that it is because of “how he framed a story.” Rather than asking him to retract or rework the story and “suggesting that a failure to do so would lead to him being barred from the building, the Canucks jumped to the conclusion.” For the first time in modern memory, the Canucks have “put a reporter on the pavement while a game was being played” (Vancouver PROVINCE, 3/28).
