Tiger Woods will “not be the captain of the United States Ryder Cup team in 2027 at Adare Manor,” according to Cameron Jourdan of GOLFWEEK. The PGA of America on Wednesday announced that Woods “told the organization he was passing on the chance to captain the team in Ireland next year.” Jourdan notes Woods was “considered the favorite in the clubhouse for the job and pondered the decision for months, though nothing was announced publicly.” However, after Woods’ arrest Friday and his Tuesday announcement that he was stepping away and seeking treatment, the PGA of America is “beginning the search in another direction.” The PGA in a statement said, “We commend Tiger for prioritizing his long-term health and deeply respect the courage it takes to make such a personal decision. Tiger has shared with us that he will not serve as Captain of the 2027 Ryder Cup Team and we support his decision. The PGA of America will share further updates regarding the Ryder Cup Captaincy when appropriate” (GOLFWEEK, 4/1).
